Pastry Supervisor

Daily Provisions is your neighborhood kitchen where the food and hospitality are good enough to visit every day. Operated by Danny Meyer s Union Square Hospitality Group, we have a dedicated following of regulars who start their morning with a cappuccino, egg sandwich, and a cruller, grab a Milanese sandwich for lunch, and end their day with rotisserie chicken and hearty vegetables.

The Pastry Supervisor works closely with the Pastry Chef of Daily Provisions, as well as with the Production Manager, Sous Chefs, and other Managers to ensure that we offer a consistently excellent pastry and bread program. Through inspirational leadership and attention to detail, they motivate the pastry and bread team to execute food beyond expectation at all locations, with extra attention given to maintaining the quality of the cruller. The Pastry Supervisor visits other locations to help train new team members on cruller production, and to check in on quality and consistency. They float menu ideas to the Pastry Chef to help ensure that we are constantly improving our offerings throughout the seasons.

The Pastry Supervisor is a new Manager-in-Training position who leads the team when no Managers are present. They are the most senior line-level staff member, acting as the lead trainer in their area when new employees are hired. The Pastry Supervisor models excellence for all line-level employees and supports management in any and all daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Able to operate all aspects of the pastry and bread programs. Continuously provides support to pastry and baking staff by actively participating in prep and baking when necessary
  • Supports the team (Hospitality and Kitchen) whenever needed (e.g, call-outs, catering, etc.)
  • Holds the pastry and bread team accountable to following all recipes and specifications as set forth by the Pastry Chef, including standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and ingredients
  • Has intimate knowledge of Department of Health standards and uses them as a guide to keep kitchen spaces tidy, and to hold the team accountable
  • Holds the team accountable to set up/break down of the pastry kitchen
  • Upholds a deep cleaning schedule of the back-of-house areas
  • Maintains a clean and stocked workplace, kitchen area, storage area, and walk-in
  • Works with the Pastry Chef and other managers in order to maintain the appropriate amount of product in house, avoiding unexpected 86es as much as possible
  • Covers Pastry Chef s days off by completing ordering, production list, and other managerial tasks

  • 3+ years of experience in kitchens and/or service in a restaurant
  • NYCDOH Food Handlers License
  • Kitchen Operations knowledge (flow of goods, cleaning supply usage, equipment usage, time management)
  • Problem-solving and delegation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ideally in two or more languages
  • Bachelors or Culinary Degree preferred
  • Able to accommodate a flexible schedule
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and multitask effectively
