The Managing Engineer reports to a Director of Architecture and Engineering and is responsible for development of Electrical technical standards for Authority and the planning, implementation, and oversight of major, complex and varied school construction projects to ensure that they comply with professional standards, and meet schedules and requirements.

This Position Requires Electrical Engineering Experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

Level A:Manages technical resources, guides interdisciplinary teams assigned to departmental projects, and participates in the development of the technical resources required to properly scope and design projectsPerforms specific duties based on assignment to a department, division, or unit within the SCAParticipates in day-to-day operations to address and resolve specific managerial, operational, and administrative problems and inquiriesPerforms managerial functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, making decisions about design-related services and materials, and/or making recommendations regarding personnel selectionEnsures adherence to the schedule, budget, and/or standardsParticipates in meetings on issues relating to departmental and interdepartmental functions of the department/unit

Level B position also:Manages duties similar to Managing Engineer A and assignments that are more complex in nature than those managed by a Managing Engineer A and supervises staff and/or consultants assigned to projects, may assign work to Managing Engineers A and B, and addresses and resolves complications that arise during the design projectMay supervise Managing Architects/Engineers A and BMay act on the behalf of or in the absence of the Studio Director and assumes greater responsibility for projects.May act as Deputy Director

Minimum Qualifications:

Level A

  • The ability to understand and be understood in English; and
  • A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer. Current New York State license must be maintained for duration of employment; and
  • Seven years of full time progressive experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must have been as a project leader, project engineer or major project contributor; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience.Level B
  • The ability to understand and be understood in English; and
  • A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer. Current New York State license must be maintained for duration of employment; and
  • Eight years of full time progressive experience as a Professional Engineer; four years must have been as a project leader, project engineer or major project contributor; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Level A salary range: $76,445 - $129,745Level B Salary range: $85,558 - $145,209

  • Substitutions: A Master's/Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a related field may substitute for two of the years of full time experience, resulting in SIX years of full time experience required for Managing Engineer A, FOUR of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.Department:VP Architecture & EngineeringDivision: A/E Technical Standards & Support Studio
